HYSB Family Solutions
Families today are under tremendous pressures with parents struggling to keep the family unit intact without the support structure of generations past.
Many of our children develop behavioral or emotional problems as a result of these stresses.
Among the many ways HYSB seeks to improve the emotional well being of children is through offering free support to parents. Support for parents and community members is offered in the following ways:
- Parenting seminars and discussion groups with a range of topics to meet the diverse needs of families today. Examples of recent workshops include "Positive Discipline", "Strengthening Step Families," "Support for Single Parents," and "Parenting in Recovery." Suggestions for topics are always welcomed.
- A resource and lending library (videos, tapes and books).
- Community Awareness projects on current issues such as the prevention of underage drinking and drug use and internet safety.
- Outreach to parents upon referral, assessment of individual needs and the provision of appropriate individualized parenting support.
- A Quarterly Parenting Newsletter (Northwest Parents’ Corner) distributed to all Region One parents with children in K — 8th grade and/or at area child care centers.
- Referrals to other community services, special events and guest speakers.
All services are free. Consultations are confidential and appointments flexible. Call HYSB at 860-824-4720 for an appointment. For a list of upcoming courses & workshops, please see Events.
