The Northwest Corner Prevention Network grew out of the Developmental Asset Survey first completed by HYSB in 2008. The survey gathered information about the experiences of young people in the Region One School District. We repeated the survey in 2011, sampling 7th, 9th, and 11th grade students. The survey measure key factors in a young adult's life that may positively or negatively influence their risk of drug and alcohol use, teenage sex, violence and academic performance.

With these results in hand, HYSB led an effort to create a network of concerned community providers to strengthen key assets for our area's youth.

At HYSB, we believe that collaboration is fundamental to any approach to prevention. The network represents a cross-section of the Northwest Corner: school teachers and administrators, business leaders, parents, non-profit advocacy groups, town recreational departments, private and public healthcare providers, and numerous other community organizations.  Meetings are held monthly at Geer Village in Canaan.

For information about volunteering to serve on the network or support its activities please contact the Bureau's Lynn Marlow at 860-824-4720.
