The Community Action Team Against Underage Drinking (CAT)

The CAT raises public awareness about the risks associated with underage drinking and other illegal drug use. In addition, CAT sponsors programs and activities that foster positive youth development. Prevention activities include information dissemination to parents and teens about the effects of abuse and addiction. Periodic public forums are held to openly discuss risk factors and to offer suggestions about what parents and community members can do to minimize teen alcohol use and other drug abuse. Alternative activities are sponsored to encourage positive social interactions. There is a scholarship fund established to assist youth and families with the expense of participation in a specific activity or sport.

It also provides case management and specialized support services for those youth who are at greater risk of substance use. A Certified Addictions Counselor is available by appointment to speak with youth and parents in Region One school district. There is no charge for this service. All calls and interviews are confidential. Referrals are accepted from parents, teens, schools and juvenile court. For more information or to make an appointment please call the HYSB at 860-824-4720.
